Blog Ads

has anyone noticed the invasion of the ads?!!!

I guess advertisers have found it cheaper to put a link through comments rathar than pay for the ads. They start out by flatterring you and complimenting your blog! As if you would get all up and excited about it and run to check the link. I did open a laptop site though, so it might actually be working. Is the complement the going rate these days to place an ad on your blog?

I think this phenomenon could be related to this article that i have found through Shirazi's blog. It shows that bloggers are of a higher income level than regular internet users, and more likely to buy stuff on the net. And it also says that advertisers are not to ignore blogs as an advertising board. wouldn't it be cute if ads can be placed on personal blogs for money, given to the blogger? The more popular the blog, the higher the fee? It sure would motivate alot of bloggers to keep their blogs updated and interesting, and capitalism would invade the blog world!

    nope you got it wrong.

this spam is not sent to blogs because bloggers have higher income, this spam is sent to bloggers in order for these websites to have higher ranking, in fact they don't care at all if the blog owner visits them or not they just need the link.

    ya3ni eih el kalam dah?

google and other search engine determine the order of hits they'll show you when you search for keywords based on how many pages link to this hit, so for instance a website about munch that is popular or relevant is likely to be heavily linked from other places and so gets high ranking.

now these spammers are trying to get high ranking so you'll find their websites on the top when you search for popular consumer words (typically aligned to sick american society), each link in a comment adds a little bit to their rank.

the sending process is automated, its a computer program that harvests the web and posts comments and trackbacks on any blog software it recognizes, most probably blogspot is doing some filtering and thats why you only see a few spam comments, on my website I do the filtering myself and I get no less than 100 spam comments per day most of them linking to internet gambling sites or to cheap grey market drugs.

no you can't filter a blogspot blog, blogspot is a very limited platform, they are running a filter for you though and it seems to be a good one, but there is nothing you can do about it yourself unless you move to another platform.

other platforms offer trainable spam filters or the simple ability to delay publishing of comments until the blog owner screens them.

in theory when all blogs manage to stop spam from ever getting published the spammers will give up, but seeing as how most people refuse to learn anything more than the minimum when it comes to technology and how most blogs are abandonded anyway spammers will always find good targets.

Thanks for the pulg in. BTW, why don't you hoist some ads for fun, if nothing else. I like my adsense meter move by a few pennies a day. It gives me a kick, honest.
